Tourism Operators

To assist Townsville Enterprise's efforts in preparation for the anticipated Cyclone Kirrily, and to support disaster planning, response, advocacy and recovery, we are seeking information from the local tourism and accommodation industry. This survey will also seek to understand ongoing perception and business impacts from the recent Cyclone Jasper and flooding event.

Please note that operator specific data will remain confidential. Accommodation providers, what's next?

Townsville Enterprise is responsible for assisting with any emergencies related to visitors within our region and accommodation available for any displaced residents.

A key role in delivering this information is working with our regional accommodation providers to gain the following information:

Before:

  • Updating contact details for a 24hr Emergency Contact at each property
  • Obtaining forward occupancy rates- for the next 7 days – please feel free to send this information through to hello@townsvillenorthqueensland.com.au

In the event there is an alert issued, and during:

  • Requests on live information - i.e. occupancy rates and any cancellations received
  • Our role will be to share information that you can forward onto guests and visitors

After:

  • Understanding visitor numbers in region and any impacts to them
  • Impacts to your business - property damage, cancellations, financial impact
  • Number of rooms available that can be used in an emergency response

All of this data is used to inform the Local Disaster Management Group and make the appropriate decisions during an emergency. These updates are also critical in the recovery phase as we look at how best to support our region
