Townsville Convention Bureau showcases the region to key business event organisers

Townsville Convention Bureau welcomed a group of professional conference organisers to Townsville this week to share all that is on offer in the region’s for the meetings, conferences and events sector.

Townsville Enterprise CEO Claudia Brumme-Smith said it is a great opportunity to welcome the key business events organisers to our region.

”With our spectacular North Queensland weather, unique conferencing and event venues, world-class attractions and dining on offer, this region really does have it all – and we are excited to showcase that,’’ Ms. Brumme-Smith said. ‘’We’ve taken this opportunity to share the diversity we have available here to suit small to large conferences and events. The delegates were treated to some of the best we have on offer, and we look forward to working together to bring more conferences and events to our region,’’ Ms. Brumme-Smith said.

With approximately 1.2 million domestic overnight visitors to the region annually, business travel makes up 26% of that figure.

Attendees came from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, for the three-day VIP experience. Their itinerary included site visits to some of the region’s top conference and events venues as well as getting a taste of the region’s best dining spots. They also had First-hand experiences of the region’s unexpected tourism and events offerings including a Magnetic Island sail cruise and a night at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium for the Women’s State of Origin game.

‘’We were delighted to host the group for a site inspection as it provided us an opportunity for key industry representatives to see our facilities first-hand,” said Rydges Southbank Townsville General Manager Ruth Prideaux said.

Julie McGraw is the Managing Director of GEMS Event Management Australia, based out of Sydney. “I was pleased to receive the invitation from Townsville Enterprise to join this regional tour. I didn’t hesitate to jump at the chance and I am pleased I made the time to visit and see all that the region has to offer – it's been a real eye opener,’’ Ms. McGraw said.
