Visitor Information Centre shows signs of pandemic recovery

20th December 2022

Townsville’s Visitor Information Centre welcomed more than 11,500 visitors in 2022.

This is more than the number of visitors welcomed to the centre in 2020 and 2021 combined.

Townsville Enterprise Director of Visitor Economy and Marketing, Lisa Woolfe said increased visitor numbers through the Visitor Information Centre is a positive sign of tourism recovery post the pandemic.

“Townsville North Queensland’s tourism volunteers provide over 5,000 hours of service each year,” Mrs Woolfe said.

“More than 40 volunteers generously give their time to be the welcoming face of our region and help facilitate bookings for tours and experiences across our region.”

“This year, we celebrated Jill Blaikie who reached 20 years of service, and also acknowledged four of our other volunteers who have reached more than 30 and 40 years of service to Townsville North Queensland’s tourism industry. Together they bring 430 years of experience and knowledge to our Volunteer Program.”

  • Jill Blaikie – 20 years
  • Florence Yates – 34 years
  • Shirley Richards – 36 years
  • Beth Heron – 37 years
  • Jennifer Young – 43 years
