North Queensland open for business post COVID as Townsville welcomes trade mission

Diplomats from eight key Asian trading partners have visited Townsville, North Queensland this week as a part of a diplomatic mission to explore trade and investment opportunities in our region.

Townsville Enterprise CEO Claudia Brumme-Smith said that representatives from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan, India and South Korea received a briefing on the region’s offerings including green hydrogen, green minerals production and agricultural investment opportunities in North Queensland.

“Townsville is a natural trading partner for many of our regional neighbours.  We can provide physical commodities like green industrial products and important food crops to rapidly urbanising populations in Asia, but we can also export information and expertise from institutions like James Cook University, an acknowledged world leader in tropical health and knowledge,” Ms Brumme-Smith said.

“After the COVID lockdown it is great to see High Commissioners returning to our city eager to explore the vast opportunities we have here in our region. With short shipping and flight times to Asian markets, we are perfectly positioned to take advantage of the Asian boom ahead.”

The delegates will travel to Cairns to conclude their 3-day mission on Thursday.
