1. Facebook – For Business

We all know it and you hopefully all love it, but we understand that making your business stand out on Facebook can be hard work. Luckily for you the team over at Facebook have created a whole space purely to help you get your business in front of your potential customers. Facebook Blueprint is specially designed courses to help business owners learn the best ways to find content, create ads and sell their products. Simply find the topic you want to learn more about and complete the courses in your own time and at your own pace.


2. Instagram for Business

Wanting to attract a younger demographic or looking to use an influencer? Instagram for Business has it all from the basics of setting up an account through to creating ads and paying for promotion. Delve into the world of likes, hashtags and stories, we promise you will come out the other side doing boomerangs!

Top Tip – Facebook and Insta are basically family so you will also find a heap of courses and videos about Instagram on Facebook for Business as well.


3. Schedule, Schedule, Schedule

Ok, now you have Facebook and Instagram sorted we are going to give you the gift of time! We have all been in the situation where we suddenly realise half way through MasterChef that we have forgotten to post on social media today. For some it might be difficult to create a post straight away because you don’t have images or videos available.

Online social media scheduling tools such as Later and Hootsuite will allow you to visually plan and schedule posts for Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. Set up your posts for each channel for a week, fortnight or month in advance and spend your new found time relaxing.


4. Mailchimp

Got 99 emails but you ain't emailing one? Mailchimp is a great tool to help you build and create emails with lots of information and content that is going straight to your contacts inbox. Whether you are trying to increase sales or just keep your customers engaged EDM’s (Electronic Direct Mail) can be useful for any business.

Not sure where to begin? Check out this video from the Mailchimp team on getting started. You will learn how to build your audience, create a template and send emails worthy of opening. 5. Canva – Creative design in your pocket

Ever wondered how to create professional looking material without having to fork out the cash each time? Well with Canva you can become your own graphic designer, social media stylist and business branding boss.

This user-friendly website will let you create everything from Social Media posts and flyers through to a complete business branding kit. You can even download print ready files for when you need to update your Brochures, Menu's and much more.

If you need a little head start then the Canva Design School will guide you from the basics through to more advanced design features and includes easy to follow tutorial videos.


6. If a tree falls in the woods….

You have probably heard it a thousand times before but having a presence online is essential for any business looking to expand. Your potential customers might be searching for accommodation or tours in the Townsville North Queensland region and you want your business to be at the top of the list.

It is good to monitor and review your business listings to ensure you are replying to reviews, answering questions and sharing the correct information. Here is just a few of the sites we suggest you start with – ATDW (Australian Tourism Data Warehouse), Google and Trip Advisor.


7. Research, Learn and Plan

Our mothers always said that we’ll learn something new every day – sometimes its learning that Barbie actually has a middle and last name and other times it’s how to write a marketing plan. The best part is that you won’t need a degree in Marketing to build a successful business, but you will need to be committed to learning new things along the way.

There are thousands of learning tools online and businesses that can teach you everything you need to know about marketing but choose one that is right for you. Here is a few of our favourites that will get you on the right track and no its not the full 7 seasons of Mad Men.


8. Build your relationships

You aren’t the first and you won’t be the last so don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for advice. Whether it’s other businesses in town or your Regional Tourism Organisation you are sure to learn a lot and make some great connections.
