The returned Albanese Commonwealth Government has announced its new Cabinet, with a number of exciting Ministerial elevations for representatives from Queensland.
In particular, we welcome Queensland Senators Murray Watt as the new Minister for the Environment and Nita Green as the new Assistant Minister for Northern Australia, Tourism and Pacific Island Affairs.
Queensland's Jim Chalmers has also been returned to the important portfolio of Treasury.
We congratulate the new and returned Ministers on their appointments, and look forward to working with the Federal Government in our bid to secure the future of Townsville North Queensland.
Additionally we welcome the news of the appointment of regional MP Sussan Ley as the new Leader of the Opposition and Queenslander Ted O’Brien as the new Deputy Leader, and congratulate David Littleproud on being returned as the Leader of the Nationals party.
With clarity now provided as to the make-up of both our State and Federal Governments for the next three or so years, we are keen to look to the future.
Federally, North Queensland is in a prime position to assist the new Commonwealth Government to meet so many of its economic, industrial and social goals.
We are confident Canberra understands that North Queensland is Australia's economic powerhouse, holds a vital strategic role in our nation’s defence, and is the gateway to trade in the Indo-Pacific region.
We expect to be front and centre of their vision for the nation.
State-wise, many of the Queensland Government's key priorities and industries centre on the North and North West Queensland region.
The projects that power the State and pay to keep the lights on must be supported in order to continue to prosper.
In particular we are excited to see expediency in the delivery of the CopperString project as well as industry-enabling prioritisation of our critical minerals sector for which there is growing global demand.
It is an exciting time to live, work and invest in Townsville North Queensland.
