Townsville Enterprise Tourism Volunteer
Townsville Enterprise Limited (TEL) is the official Regional Economic Development Organisation and the Regional Tourism Organisation for Townsville and North Queensland. The organisation is funded predominantly through partnership/membership subscriptions, including contributions from local Statutory Authorities, and through grants from Tourism and Events Queensland and is comprised of three divisions – Economic Development, Tourism and Events, Convention Bureau.
The organisation relies heavily on its enthusiastic group of Volunteers who are a highly valued and important part of the organisation and who provide a high standard of information and service to the general public. Each year thousands of visitors learn about and appreciate Townsville and our region through the Information Centres and other activities performed by the Volunteers. Considerable effort is made to ensure Volunteers are well trained and fully informed on all current information, events and activities. As a Volunteer you will receive no remuneration but you are accepted and regarded as an employee.
This commitment statement is an acknowledgement by you as a Volunteer that your participation is reliable and ongoing as described within the Volunteer Conditions.
VOLUNTEER CONDITIONS
- To make a commitment to be involved with the Volunteer Scheme for one year.
- A commitment of four (4) hours per month is welcomed, however the organisation is prepared to negotiate the time commitments to attend the Information Centres or other Volunteer activities as specified by the Tourism Executive, in consideration of the individual circumstances of each Volunteer.
- To advise the Roster Coordinator or Tourism Executive if for any reason, you are temporarily unable to meet these commitments due to holidays, sickness, work/family commitments etc.
- Attendance at professional development opportunities such as training sessions, workshops or familiarisation trips is highly recommended for the purpose of updating information and gaining personal knowledge. Advice of these education sessions will be communicated via email and it is the Volunteers’ responsibility to advise the Tourism Executive of their attendance.
- To wear the correct uniform in a neat and tidy manner when on duty in order to present a professional team image for the Townsville Enterprise Tourism Volunteers.
- To maintain a positive attitude towards the promotion of Townsville and the region and to promote all members equally.
- To maintain a positive attitude towards the promotion of Townsville Enterprise, its staff and fellow Volunteers.
- To maintain confidentiality of information as outlined in the handbook.
- To keep up-to-date with industry changes, volunteer issues, VIC operations, etc by reading the e-Communication the “Volunteer Wrap” and the Information folders and Communication Books in the Visitor Information Centre on every shift.
CODE OF CONDUCT
All employees of Townsville Enterprise are expected to observe the highest possible standards of behaviour, ethics and integrity as a condition of their employment.
The standards expected of Volunteers include, but are not limited to:
- strict observation of workplace health and safety rules, responsibilities and practices at all times
- adherence to the confidentiality of any information, records or other sensitive material acquired during the course of employment and/or after the cessation of employment with Townsville Enterprise
- honesty, respect, fairness and a courteous manner in all dealings with customers, clients, co-workers, suppliers, management and the general public
- the proper intended use of and respect for Townsville Enterprise Equipment, information, electronic systems, supplies and property (including intellectual property)
- not to make any unauthorised public statements, including to the media, about Townsville Enterprise business. The CEO will be the lead contact for all media relations
- to observe the highest standards of professional conduct and ethical behaviour in all of their activities
- to uphold the objectives of Townsville Enterprise Limited and abide by its rules and regulations
- to use the resources only for legitimate company purposes and to not misuse the facilities of the company including email, internet and telephone facilities
- shall refrain from conduct or action which detract from the reputation of the company
- are required to exercise complete probity, integrity, honesty and diligence in carrying out their duties and responsibilities
- shall treat others with respect, dignity and concern for their rights, freedoms and individual needs and with courtesy and sensitivity to their rights, duties and aspirations
- shall not use confidential information gained in the performance of their duties for any personal gain nor in a manner which would be detrimental to their employer or client
- Shall continue to respect and adhere to the Confidentiality Agreement signed on commencement as a Volunteer
