Townsville to Host Women's State of Origin Game 3

14th November 2023

The National Rugby League (NRL) today announced the Women’s State of Origin will move to a three-game series for the first time ever in 2024, with the historic third and final game to be played in Townsville.

As current holders of the Shield, Queensland will have the first opportunity to host the expanded series twice and defend their title in 2024 with the potential decider confirmed for Thursday, June 27 at Townsville’s Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Townsville Enterprise CEO Claudia Brumme-Smith said securing the event two years running is a testament to the city’s events capability.

“Hosting the Women’s State of Origin two years in a row is truly confirming Townsville as not only the home of NRL but the epicentre of Women’s sport.” Ms Brumme-Smith said.

“In June this year Townsville lived up to our reputation as the heartland of NRL breaking records with a crowd attendance at the Women’s State of Origin match with 18,275 spectators,”

“Townsville Enterprise with Townsville City Council undertook a community sentiment and future demand study for events this year and it clearly identified national sporting events as a priority,”

“With the All Stars, North Queensland Cowboys, Townsville Fire, Multisport World Championships and now the Women’s State of Origin, we are certainly building a calendar of events that puts Townsville on the map.”

Acting Mayor of Townsville City Council Cr Mark Molachino says that Townsville is proud to be breaking records in women’s sport and hosting the Women’s State of Origin in 2024.

“Following a record-breaking crowd attendance at Queensland Country Bank Stadium for the event this year, we are proud to have the Women’s State of Origin back in Townsville in 2024, helping to further cement our city as the heart of NRL.”

“With our fantastic line up of sporting events across 2024, this is an exciting opportunity for local kids to see their sporting heroes in action and on show right here in Townsville.”

“These events are an incredible opportunity to showcase the city and build our regions profile as a place to live, work, play, invest and visit.”

The Women’s State of Origin will be broadcast live on the Nine Network and on Fox Sports.
