23rd September 2022

Townsville North Queensland has been ranked the 23rd top tourism destination in the world in a report released by the Tourism Sentiment Index this week.

The quarterly report analyses the sentiment of millions of pieces of online content and conversations from real visitors across more than 21,000 global destinations.

Townsville Enterprise Director – Visitor Economy & Marketing, Lisa Woolfe said Townsville’s sentiment score is 30.2 and ranks the region above popular holiday destinations including Queenstown, Miami, Fiji, and Port Douglas.

“The report confirms what we have always known that Townsville North Queensland can and does compete with world-renowned global tourism destinations,” Mrs. Woolfe said.

“The report is built on word-of-mouth and has Townsville outperforming the Queensland, national and international benchmarks.”

“We continue to see the region play to its strengths with our beaches, world-class diving and snorkelling, vibrant events calendar, and emerging nightlife scene all major contributors to the report. We are seeing the tangible benefits of our amazing tourism offering, with accommodation occupancy, aviation capacity, and visitor numbers on par with pre-COVID figures.”

“The tourism industry supports thousands of local jobs and a strong tourism offering and an appealing destination for visitors supports population growth, community satisfaction, and skills attraction.”

“This news comes as we have the spotlight on Townsville for the preliminary NRL final this week and ahead of the launch of our major destination marketing campaign which will reposition and build awareness of our world-class tourism offerings.”
