TEL's green energy road trip goes global
For the first time, Townsville Enterprise’s green energy road trip has gone global.
This year, Townsville Enterprise’s annual Unlock the North Road Trip Series coincides with an investment mission to South Korea and will focus on Townsville North Queensland’s green energy credentials.
Townsville Enterprise CEO, Claudia Brumme-Smith and Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill have travelled to Seoul, South Korea this week to strengthen relationships and develop the region’s hydrogen and critical mineral export potential.
Townsville Enterprise CEO, Claudia Brumme-Smith said South Korea plans to source a third of its energy from hydrogen by 2050, making the gas the largest single source of energy nationally.
“We will have the opportunity this week, during our investment mission, to showcase Townsville North Queensland’s green energy credentials as the future world leader in green hydrogen, critical minerals and battery production,” Mrs Brumme-Smith said.
“Korea is home to large technology and car giants such as Samsung and Hyundai who are looking for battery technology made from critical minerals. Minerals that we have right here in Townsville North Queensland.”
“The time is now to put Townsville North Queensland top of mind, ensure we have the key infrastructure in place, and have the local, state, and federal government support to capitalise on this opportunity and secure the future of our region.”
“With the announcement of Queensland’s Energy and Jobs Plan, it is the perfect opportunity to make our green energy story known and to strengthen our partnerships with South Korea so we can unlock Townsville North Queensland’s green energy superpower.”
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Townsville was perfectly positioned to become a green energy hub to service North Queensland.
“Townsville is a sister city to Korea’s Suwon, but we’re also part of a significant partnership in the creation of green energy for Australia and Korea,” Cr Hill said.
“A number of Korean companies are investing about $20 billion dollars into our energy corridor to bring affordable energy and green energy into the city. That will have a big impact on the industry here.”
“Townsville seems to attract significant investment from outside Australia, so it’s essential that our city maintains a strong focus outside of Australia to ensure Townsville continues to attract investment into the region.”
Townsville Enterprise will release a series of videos on its social channels this next week showcasing the region’s green energy capability and its enormous potential for growth.
