Record number of nominations as Public Voting for top tourism experiences opens

This October is your chance to vote for your top tourism and event experiences right here in Townsville North Queensland.

Townsville Enterprise has opened the public voting for North Queensland’s Tourism and Events People’s Choice Awards, with one lucky voter getting the chance to win a $500 holiday voucher.

Townsville Enterprise Director Visitor Economy and Marketing Lisa Woolfe said, “Our tourism industry is the beating heart of North Queensland – supporting nearly 9,000 local jobs and contributing $1.2 billion to our economy each year. More than numbers, these are the passionate people who bring our region to life every day – telling our stories, sharing our culture, and creating unforgettable experiences that grow Townsville North Queensland as a premier tropical destination.”

“This is a chance for visitors and locals to get behind the industry and shine a spotlight on the businesses they believe should win across the 12 People’s Choice Award categories, including café and casual dining, festivals and events, tours, attractions, and experiences – just to name a few!”

“Townsville North Queensland's tourism sector continues to build momentum, and this is recognised by a record number of nominations this year. This follows the recent launch in partnership with Townsville City Council of our largest ever tourism campaign, further elevating the profile of our region and attracting new visitors.”

“Voting opens today, and winners will be decided by the people alongside some key industry benchmarks and measures. These awards will shine a light on the very best of Townsville North Queensland. More than that, it’s a chance to celebrate our entire tourism industry – the milestones, the passion, and the incredible achievements of the past 12 months.”

Townsville Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said, “As a Council we are proud to support initiatives like the North Queensland Tourism and Events Awards, and celebrate our local tourism and hospitality sectors.”

“These awards recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals and businesses that make Townsville a vibrant destination for visitors.”

“Local businesses can thrive and continue to build their iconic brands with community support. From cafés and attractions to tours and events, these operators are the heartbeat of Townsville’s visitor economy.”

“Now is the time for locals and visitors to get on board, show their support, and cast their votes to celebrate the experiences that make our city a must-visit destination.”

The award categories are assessed according to the nominee's Best of Queensland Experiences score and supported by public voting. Public voting will close Friday 26 October.
