North Queensland Welcomes Queensland Treasurer on CopperString Road Trip
Townsville Enterprise warmly welcomes Queensland Treasurer, the Hon David Janetzki MP, to Townsville and Mount Isa as part of his CopperString road trip. This is the Treasurer’s second visit to Townsville in just one month—a clear demonstration of the Crisafulli Government’s strong commitment to North Queensland and a vote of confidence in the region’s pivotal role in powering Queensland’s economy.
North Queensland is proudly home to some of the world’s best wind and solar resources, with over 35GW of renewable energy potential identified across the region. The unprecedented level of interest in renewable energy investment—from the coast to the inland—reflects our region’s vital contribution to the nation’s clean energy future.
The State Government’s commitment to CopperString in its recent budget is a game-changing investment that will help unlock this renewable potential. This transmission line between Townsville and Mount Isa is the critical enabler that connects our energy-rich regions to the National Electricity Market, opening the door to billions in clean energy and minerals investment.
Message from Claudia Brumme-Smith, CEO, Townsville Enterprise:
"It is encouraging to see the Treasurer travelling the Townsville to Mount Isa corridor this week. This is more than a road trip—it’s a signal of the importance this Government places on North Queensland’s contribution to Queensland’s future economy."
"CopperString is the single most important enabling project in Northern Australia. Over 40% of our $40 billion investment pipeline relies on the successful delivery of this transmission project, which will connect world-class renewable and mineral resources to the national grid."
