Member Alert: Regional Board Meeting

5th December 2017

For the first time in 26 years, Townsville Enterprise held its bi-monthly Board Meeting outside of Townsville in one of the regions the organisation represents. This week's Townsville Enterprise Board Meeting was held at the Burdekin Shire Council Chambers, with an economic update also provided to the Board by Burdekin Mayor, Cr Lyn McLaughlin.

The Mayor's presentation highlighted the significant and wide-ranging investment opportunities on offer across the Burdekin, not only due to the region's core strengths of water availability, fertile land supply and affordable cost of living, to name a few, but also the work currently undertaken by the Council's Economic Development Department.

In order to create wealth, employment, educational opportunities and enhance the lifestyle of residents and visitors in the Burdekin, the Council are actively engaging with local primary producers and industry to develop links with relevant State and Federal Government agencies. This aims to encourage local producers to value-add to their primary crops in order to strengthen the region's economy.

Townsville Enterprise will make it an annual occurrence to take one Board Meeting a year to a Local Government Area (LGA) the organisation represents.
