Homegrown talent takes Policy and Investment role

Townsville Enterprise is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Wayde Chiesa as the Director of Policy and Investment for the organisation.

The Director position is a key role in growing the region’s economic opportunities, through the development of advocacy and investment programmes that aim to secure investment and deliver economic growth for Townsville and North Queensland.

Currently employed at Townsville City Council as Principal – City Activation, Mr Chiesa brings a wealth of experience, regional knowledge, and local and state-wide networks.

Townsville Enterprise CEO Patricia O’Callaghan said Mr Chiesa had a strong awareness of North Queensland industries, economic sectors, and the current opportunities and challenges facing business in the region.

“With over 20 years’ experience as a finance and business professional working for organisations including Townsville City Council, PricewaterhouseCoopers, BHP Billiton and Incitec Pivot, Wayde has an in-depth understanding of the opportunities and challenges the region is facing,” said Ms O’Callaghan.

“He has an enthusiasm for economic development and with intimate knowledge of the region’s economic landscape Wayde will hit the ground running assisting to deliver and build upon the over $400 million in projects Townsville Enterprise has recently helped secure for the region.

“Wayde has a reputation of getting outcomes and was recently involved in the creation and execution of the ‘Townsville Eats’ concept and played a key role in Townsville becoming the host city of the 2021 ITU World MultiSport Championships which generate significant business opportunities for the North.

“We are proud to announce that a local who has lived, studied and worked in the region has been successful in securing this role and I have every confidence that Wayde will work with our key partners and stakeholders to continue to grow our economic development strategy and policy initiatives.”

Mr Chiesa is well known in the community for his sports commentating work with Southern Cross Austereo’s Triple M network (calling North Queensland Cowboys matches) and in his volunteer roles for several charity groups and sporting events in Townsville, including as Race Director for the Townsville Triathlon Festival.

Mr Chiesa said he was looking forward to combining his passion for regional areas and economic development.

“Having lived in North Queensland my whole life I am passionate about this region and securing a positive and prosperous future for the community,” said Mr Chiesa.

“North Queensland has a lot to offer with several strategic advantages that can be leveraged to generate jobs and investment into the region.”

The appointment is effective Monday 2 December 2019.
