$2M kick-start for the Paluma to Wallaman Falls Trail

18th November 2022

Following the recent completion of the Paluma to Wallaman Falls Trail business case, the Queensland Government has committed a further $2M to identify and progress early works on existing infrastructure for the region’s proposed 125-kilometre Paluma to Wallaman Falls dual walking and bike trail.

The proposed Paluma to Wallaman Falls Trail would complement the region’s diverse attractions, including beaches, rainforests, islands, and the Great Barrier Reef.

Townsville Enterprise Director of Visitor Economy and Marketing, Lisa Woolfe said this a welcomed investment into tourism product development for the region.

“Connecting Australia’s highest single-drop waterfall, Wallaman Falls to the renowned beauty of Paluma through a cultural trail would provide an exciting and sought-after tourism experience for our region,” Mrs Woolfe said.

“As an emerging tourism destination, investments into new tourism product development and infrastructure are integral for our region to grow and entice visitors.”

“This funding will progress early works and get us closer to seeing this trail come to fruition.”

Townsville City Council Mayor Jenny Hill said adventure-based ecotourism experiences as well as cultural experiences are growing in popularity.

“The Queensland Government investment into the Paluma to Wallaman Trail will ensure that Townsville has a place at the top of mind for future visitors to the area,” Mayor Hill said.

Hinchinbrook Shire Council’s Mayor Ramon Jayo said the Paluma to Wallaman Trail represents a significant opportunity for Australians to experience some of this region’s most spectacular country.

“Council has been working with a range of stakeholders for several years on the master plan and we welcome this latest funding to ensure this plan becomes a reality,” Mayor Jayo said.

Mayor Frank Beveridge said Charters Towers Regional Council applauds the additional funding received for the completion of what will be a unique, world-class eco-tourism destination to visitors in the region.

“The Paluma to Wallaman Falls trail will have far reaching economic and cultural benefits for all involved and further enrich the tourism portfolio that North Queensland currently has to offer.”

“It is only through collaboration with others in the region that we can collectively influence the sustainability of such projects,” said Mayor Beveridge.
