Following the Electoral Commission of Queensland recently declaring the results of the 2020 Local Government Elections, Townsville Enterprise congratulates the Mayors and Councillors elected to represent our region's five Local Government Areas of Townsville, Burdekin, Hinchinbrook, Charters Towers and Palm Island.
Council is the tier of government closest to communities and as we navigate through the impacts of COVID-19 and towards our region's economic recovery, the role of our local councils, in partnership with the State and Federal Government, is more important than ever.
What our broader region has faced over the last few years has been nothing short of extraordinary. Between natural disasters, economic downturn, and now the dual health and economic crisis of Coronavirus. But what has seen North Queensland not only get through these challenging times but come out stronger on the other side is the united partnership between this organisation and our five regional councils.
We look forward to continuing this strong partnership with each Mayor and Councillor of our five councils and advocating on behalf of their community for the projects and policies that will support recovery during and post COVID-19, and continue building towards securing long term economic opportunities for the region.
