Exciting milestones met and underway as the work at Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct (LEIP) takes place

Townsville Enterprise would like to extend their congratulations to Townsville City Council, Solquartz, Private Energy Partners (PEP), Quinbrook and DriveIt NQ on today’s exciting announcement marking the continued progress at Lansdown Eco-Industrial Precinct (LEIP).

Project Update

Construction is now well underway across the 2,200-hectare precinct, including the delivery of key internal roadworks and advanced planning for a major intersection upgrade — a clear sign that LEIP is beginning to take shape.

Significant progress has been made at the precinct, with several key milestones already achieved. Projects are either completed, currently underway, or have submitted Development Applications (DAs) for review:

  • Completed - Completion of the upgrade to the Flinders Highway intersection at Old Flinders Highway and Woodstock-Giru Road in 2023.
  • Underway - The Calcium precinct underway with construction commencing on several internal roads, including the extension of No-Name Road and upgrading Jones Road.
  • Submitted - Official lodgement of a DA for three 260 MW / 8-hour Battery Energy Storage Systems called Supernode North as part of the Northern Quartz Campus, a North Queensland quartz to silicon supply chain solution.
  • Awarded - Package of works awarded by the Council to establish a sealed road access to DriveIt NQ.

A message from our Director Regional Development and Investment, Chris McDougall:

“It is great to see the progress of LEIP. The announcement today about the Solquartz project, with their DA for the Supernode North development now officially submitted, is incredibly promising."

“It is clear that LEIP is really starting to take shape, which will help drive economic growth in Townsville.”

“The submission of subsequent DAs for the biochar and metallurgical silicon production facilities shows the confidence that major investors like Quinbrook have in Townsville's future.”

“With billions of dollars in advanced manufacturing and clean energy projects in the Project Pipeline, the future looks bright.”

“These projects will create long term jobs for the city, increasing prosperity and making sure the younger generation in North Queensland have access to exciting and well-paid jobs in the future.”

“The road access for DriveIt NQ will also be a huge bonus for the community."

A message from Townsville City Council Acting Mayor, Ann-Maree Greaney:

“This is the time where the outline of the precinct will really start to take shape with further roads being constructed, as well as the establishment of the primary access into the precinct.”

“The completed precinct will have around 18.5 km of roads, but it’s this initial Construction that really lays the foundations for further growth, and we’re excited to see further stages of roadworks and even some water infrastructure being completed over the next year, as I’m sure are our proponents.”

A message from Townsville City Council Divisional Councillor, Brady Ellis:

“I’m excited to see the precinct start coming together, seeing Development Applications being lodged and hopefully shovels in the ground, creating exciting job opportunities over the coming years.”
