Board Director Appointment

14th April 2021

The Townsville Enterprise Board is pleased to announce the endorsement of Mr Peter Wheeler as a new Board Director of Townsville Enterprise.

The appointment comes after long serving Board Director Peter Honeycombe resigns from the Board after seven years of service to the organisation.

A third-generation Townsville resident with over 20 years’ experience in Commercial and Industrial real estate, Mr Wheeler is a highly regarded local business leader with an intimate knowledge of the regional property market.

As Managing Director of Colliers Townsville, Peter established the first real estate company in Townsville with an exclusive focus on the commercial and industrial property market.

He also has a strong interest in community and social issues currently serving as the North Queensland Chairman of the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal for the past two years and is a Property Council of Australia – Townsville committee member.

Mr Wheeler said that it was a pleasure to accept the appointment as a Director on the Townsville Enterprise Board.

”I am looking forward to working with the other members of the Board and the wider Townsville Enterprise organisation to contribute to strategies that will support increased economic and social benefit for the region,” Mr Wheeler said.

“I have always maintained a great passion and commitment to Townsville and its economic position and believe COVID-19 has presented regional centres likes ours an enormous opportunity to deliver genuine growth and investment into the region.

“I see Townsville Enterprise as an organisation committed to securing real results and outcomes for Townsville and North Queensland. I’m looking forward to contributing to the organisation’s objectives by leveraging my knowledge of the region’s economy and the current challenges and opportunities facing businesses and the community.”

Townsville Enterprise Chairman Kevin Gill said Mr Wheeler’s appointment was based on his strong leadership shown across the development of Townsville over the past two decades, complementing the priorities of the organisation.

“Peter’s experience and knowledge is aligned to the direction of Townsville Enterprise,” Mr Gill said.

“He has long been a key contributor and supporter of Townsville Enterprise’s advocacy initiatives and is a welcomed addition to the Board.

“The Board and I also extend our sincere gratitude to Peter Honeycombe for volunteering seven years of service to Townsville Enterprise. He has been an integral component of the bold strategies and positions the organisation has taken to date.

“His considerable governance and project management experience both at Board level, and also as a member of the Hells Gates Steering Committee, have been invaluable to the organisation.”
