ADVOCACY ALERT | 2032 Olympics secured for Queensland

It's positive news that tonight Queensland has secured the 2032 Olympic Games.

We congratulate Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, as well as former Lord Mayor Graham Quirk for getting the bid over the finish line.

Hosting an Olympics Games is a once in a lifetime opportunity and has been touted to have broad reaching benefit across the State.

We believe the Townsville North Queensland region can play a key role pre, during and post the Games. We have world-class sporting infrastructure, an incredible tourism offering, and a proven track record in hosting large scale and international level sporting events.

This event needs to benefit all of Queensland and the North must have a meaningful role to ensure we can fully leverage the opportunity.

We have an 11-year runway into the Games, which is why the region will be submitting a formal proposal to both State and Federal Governments on where the opportunities lie for Townsville and the role North Queensland can play for this event.
