It is welcomed news for our region that Adani Group will provide the finance for the Carmichael Mine and Rail Project to commence imminently, delivering more than 1,500 direct jobs in the initial construction phase.
The announcement is a sign of strength in the resources sector and a boost of confidence for the 11,000 currently unemployed in our local community who are looking for work.
Resources are an important part of our local, state and national economy and the opening of the Galilee Basin will turbocharge jobs, business and confidence for us all – especially North Queensland.
There are six mines that could proceed in the Galilee Basin and Adani’s announcement today, after eight years of approvals, is a positive step forward. We commend Adani on its commitment to this project and look forward to working through the detail of this positive announcement and next steps.
