Townsville’s current water sources include the Paluma Dam in the North and Ross River Dam to the South. These supplies offer approximately two years’ guaranteed water supply. After three failed wet seasons, water levels within Ross River Dam are extremely low.
Townsville is currently experiencing level three water restrictions and supplementary water is being accessed via the Burdekin Haughton Water Supply Scheme. This method of transporting water is both inefficient and costly.
For this reason, water remains a top priority for Townsville Enterprise and forms a key part of Townsville North Queensland’s State Election Priorities.
