The Port of Townsville is the largest container and automotive port in Northern Australia and is a vital component of the Townsville North Queensland economy. It is the country’s number one exporter of zinc, lead, sugar, fertiliser and molasses.
Industries which rely on the Port of Townsville directly support approximately 9,000 jobs.
Presently, the Port is at risk of losing its physical and economic competitiveness with other export facilities. Vital infrastructure is required to capture the full economic export capabilities of the region and support the industries within it.
