Advocacy Alert: Tigerair connects Melbourne to Townsville
It was announced today that Tiger Airways will operate four weekly return flights between Townsville and Melbourne commencing Thursday 22 June 2017.
Today is a day to not just celebrate the announcement of Tiger Airways as a new airline into Townsville, with an additional 28, 000 seats, but also an opportunity to sell our region to potential tourists, investors and those that are looking to relocate out of Melbourne and discover Townsville North Queensland.
The collaboration between the Townsville Airport, Townsville City Council, Tourism and Events Queensland and Townsville Enterprise, will see us work together to deliver one of the largest marketing campaigns into a single destination in the history of this region. A campaign whilst focused on attracting visitors will be one that organically sells the message of why Townsville North Queensland is the capital of Northern Australia and why it is a great place to visit, invest and live in.
Today is another step forward, but it is certainly not the last. The Aviation Attraction Committee will continue to strive for new domestic and international routes into the city. A focus for that group, which includes Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill, Townsville Enterprise CEO Patricia O'Callaghan, Townsville Airport COO Kevin Gill, a Tourism and Events Queensland Executive and a number of key stakeholders, is about taking a united approach to sell the package of Townsville North Queensland to airlines.
We look forward to working with all stakeholders to see more announcements in the near future.
