Advocacy Alert: Positive Step Forward For Cooperative Research Centre
Minister for Northern Australia, Senator Matt Canavan was in Townsville today to announce the Board for the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Developing Northern Australia.
This is a positive step forward for a $75M project that will bring industry, research organisations and international partners together over 10 years to develop commercialised research and development outcomes for the agriculture, food and tropical health sectors.
The Board consists of:
- Sheriden Morris (Chair)
- John Wharton AM
- Peter Long
- John Bearne
- Donald F.J Mcdonald AM OBE
- Tracey Hayes
- Melissa George
Townsville Enterprise would like to acknowledge the Interim Chair, John Wharton for driving the project. It is a positive result to see him and another local identity, John Bearne appointed to the Board.
Regional stakeholders strongly advocated for the CRC to be headquartered in Townsville to ensure that the infrastructure, economic development and investment decisions that will shape Northern Australia can occur in the region’s largest and most prosperous city.
This is an exciting project that presents opportunities to commercialise research and development and establish new industries in a number of industry sectors. Now that the Board has been appointed, Townsville Enterprise looks forward to seeing the project come to fruition as soon as possible.
