Townsville North Queensland Secures Adani Regional Headquarters
Following years of advocacy by Townsville Enterprise, Townsville City Council and regional stakeholders, the project that Townsville North Queensland has been waiting for is now a reality.
Townsville Enterprise CEO, Patricia O’Callaghan, has welcomed the news.
“Not only has the Adani Mine, Rail and Port Project received the necessary Government approvals to ensure the project turns the first sod in 2017, but we are thrilled that after years of lobbying we can now say that Townsville has been announced as the regional headquarters for the project.
“The Adani Mine, Rail and Port Project will bring Townsville jobs, apprenticeships and traineeships at a time when our region needs it the most. We anticipate that this project will generate over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs with opportunities across construction, engineering, accounting, legal, management and administration.
“We know India is an economic powerhouse and this is an opportunity to build our relationships. Hopefully through this good will, partnership and friendship we can open up an international alliance for economic development.
“We will continue to work with Adani, local Councils and all levels of Government to ensure the project maintains momentum and that we maximise this great opportunity for Townsville North Queensland.
“This project has been a number of years in the making and acknowledgment needs to go to Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Minister Lynham, Minister O’Rourke and the State Government for supporting this project. Prime Minster Malcolm Turnbull and Minister Matthew Canavan should also be acknowledged for championing this project and jobs for Queensland.”
