Advocacy Alert: Welcomed opportunity to meet with Treasurer Cameron Dick

9th June 2020

This afternoon Townsville Enterprise welcomed the opportunity to meet with the Hon Cameron Dick MP on his first visit to Townsville as Queensland Treasurer. It was great to meet with the Treasurer and local MPs Scott Stewart and Aaron Harper.

This was the Treasurer’s first regional visit since assuming his new role where we were able to brief him in detail on key projects as well as discuss support for some of the traditional and emerging industries that will boost economic recovery in North Queensland. It was a wide ranging discussion covering government assistance and policy support programs for local agriculture, mining and resources, education, tourism, aviation, and Defence. These industries in particular were highlighted by the Treasurer as being critical for post COVID-19 economic recovery.

On behalf of our members we acknowledged the State Government's COVID-19 support measures, especially the Premier's decision to fast track the lifting of restrictions on intrastate travel and gathering sizes. The Treasurer appreciated the 'on the ground' feedback from our business community, particularly the tourism, hospitality and accommodation sectors. This feedback gave important insights into some of the real challenges facing business and industry in the regions and provided advice to the Treasurer on ways his government could help give locals a leg up during these tough times.

We certainly look forward to staying closely in touch with the Treasurer and appreciate our local State Government members in arranging this important opportunity for local business.
