Townsville education and training

The Townsville region has an extensive network of both public and privately funded primary and secondary schools with tertiary education offered through the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE (BRIT) and James Cook University (JCU). JCU is ranked within the top 5 percent of world universities (based on the 2009 assessment by the Institute of Higher Education of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University).

Within the primary and secondary school systems, there are an extensive range of opportunities both within Townsville and the surrounding regions. With its strong regional presence and high standard of facilities, North Queensland attracts a large percentage of rural boarders who can be based in Townsville, Charters Towers and Ingham.

School-based apprenticeships are offered at Tec-NQ to prepare students for successful careers in the skills sector.
