Media Release: Convention Bureau secures national gaming conference

6th September 2018

This week, from Monday 4 to Friday 7 September, Townsville is hosting 530 delegates at the Townsville Entertainment and Exhibition Centre for the 2018 EB Games & ZING Pop Culture Conference, injecting nearly $1M into Townsville’s economy.

The internal EB Games and ZING Pop Culture conference is attended by store managers, and regional and state team leaders from around Australia and New Zealand as part of their annual training and development programs.

It is an opportunity for development, networking and for attendees to hear firsthand from gaming industry publishers on upcoming game releases such as the highly anticipated worldwide launch of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Townsville Enterprise Director – Tourism & Events, Bridget Woods, said the event is a major coup for the region and its capacity building in the global business event market.

“It’s a significant opportunity for Townsville to host the 2018 EB Games & ZING Pop Culture Conference this week to showcase our event facilities and our city to over 500 visitors,” said Ms Woods.

“Securing the conference in Townsville is the direct result of the Townsville Enterprise Convention Bureau’s attendance at the Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event in February this year to meet with the EB Games conference organisers.

“The event organisers visited Townsville shortly after where our potential venues were presented, with Townsville then securing the event after bidding against other destinations from across the Asia-Pacific.

EB Games Australia Marketing and Events Director, Debra McGrath said the Queensland based company was thrilled to bring its conference to the region.

“We are very proud to bring delegates from across Australia and New Zealand to Townsville,” said Ms McGrath.

“At this time of year, we believe there is no better place in Australia to escape the winter chills.

“Townsville is a genuine event city and the whole city has embraced us. The facilities at The Ville are world class and their partnership with the Townsville Entertainment and Exhibition Centre means that large groups are able to have a seamless conference experience here.”

While in Townsville, delegates will experience a private rodeo event at the Elite Rodeo Grounds on Hervey Range Road and will utilise a range of services from local businesses across food and beverage, transport, accommodation and AV requirements.
