Local Takes Tourism Top Job

26th June 2019

Townsville Enterprise is pleased to announce the appointment of Lisa Woolfe as the Director of Tourism and Events for the organisation.

The Director position is a key role in growing the region’s tourism and events sector; working with local operators, State Government and industry bodies to increase visitation to Townsville North Queensland and providing world class experiences and events to the community.

Ms Woolfe brings a wealth of experience, local knowledge, national and international networks, and a proven track record of delivery to the role.

CEO Patricia O’Callaghan said Ms Woolfe has a reputation for delivering results not just for the tourism industry but for the region.

“Lisa has been integral to a number of industry achievements for North Queensland in recent years”, said Ms O’Callaghan.

“Whether it be delivering the marketing plan for the ‘Driving the Great Barrier Reef’ campaign that won Gold at the 2018 Queensland Tourism Awards, targeted airline activities delivering almost 13,000 seats in 10 days, or managing the recent flood recovery campaign with the State Government, Lisa has proven she has the knowledge, networks and ability to drive real visitation and business into North Queensland.

“We are proud to announce that a local who has lived, studied and worked in the region has been successful in securing this role and I have every confidence that Lisa will continue this momentum and grow our tourism and events industry even further.”

Chairman of the region’s Tourism and Events Strategic Advisory Committee and Ville Resort Casino CEO, Michael Jones, said Lisa’s focus on building the accommodation sector had delivered results and her attention on new product development would only strengthen the industry.

“Lisa set up North Queensland’s first ever Events Bid Fund and to date, this initiative has delivered more than 174,000 room nights and injected over $47M into the local economy,” said Mr Jones.

“I have also had the opportunity to work closely with Lisa in her Acting Director role and her passion for driving new products, such as the Museum of Underwater Art, and strategic commercial partnerships with businesses, such as Jetstar and Webjet, have and will continue to deliver more business for members and the broader region.”

Townsville Triathlon Festival President and business owner, Jamie Fitzpatrick, said Lisa has what it takes to take the events industry to the next level.

“I worked with Lisa in the development of the bid for the 2021 ITU Multisport World Championships and I was impressed with her ability to work collaboratively to secure the biggest event in Townsville’s history”, said Mr Fitzpatrick.

“Lisa’s attitude and knowledge of the local events industry will be integral to securing new events to North Queensland and I look forward to working with her to achieve this.”

Ms Woolfe said she was excited about the opportunity and the region’s focus on new product development, tourism marketing and major events.

“Though my roles in economic development and tourism at Townsville Enterprise I have been able to build a strong network of partnerships both domestically and internationally,” said Ms Woolfe.

“These partnerships have been invaluable to the success of recent initiatives and will further support Townsville Enterprise’s strong focus on new tourism developments, events, marketing and airport connectivity to drive visitation into the region.”

The appointment was effective Wednesday 26 June 2019.
