CEO Column - April 2019

30th April 2019

There is strength in unity and the last few years is a testament to how North Queenslanders can work together and against all odds secure wins.

Despite being a long way from Brisbane and Canberra Parliament halls, we’ve ensured we’re not out of sight or out of mind. Townsville Enterprise is honoured to be a part of a community that’s turned good ideas into good policy and then into billions of dollars’ worth of committed projects.

A new stadium, the Haughton pipeline, Hells Gates Dam Project and the Museum of Underwater Art are all real examples of what can be achieved when business leaders, the community, Government and industry work together.

During this election we’ve secured millions of dollars’ worth of commitments towards the Mount Isa to Townsville Rail Line, Reef HQ, Defence procurement, and Drive It, but there is more work to be done.

Sometimes we will not agree with Governments, but ultimately our guide is our community and the need to fight for local jobs and investment. On the rare occasions we have to - as we did last election over the Stadium and currently over the Galilee Basin - we will defend the interest of our community first and foremost. We will not apologise for this.

While we will roll our sleeves up and take on the fight, it’s also worth reminding ourselves of what we have achieved together. Thank you to those in the community that have supported this advocacy and the fight for our future.
